In March 2012 the institute could look back on 20 years of successful scientific work. At a colloquium held jointly with the Chair of Economic History at the Humboldt University, this was taken as an opportunity to take stock as well as to show current processes of fundamental demographic developments in Germany. Scientists, university lecturers, representatives of federal institutions and state politicians discussed the causes, consequences and effects of population policy and demographic change and emphasized the importance of targeted political action.
